President

Welcome to the Friends of Betty J. Johnson North Sarasota Library Website!

It is my pleasure to welcome you and thank you for taking the time to learn more about our organization. Since becoming President in July 2025, I have had the privilege of discovering the many ways our Friends organization supports the programs of the Betty J. Johnson North Sarasota Library through our volunteer-operated bookstore and our history center, the African American Cultural Resource Center (AACRC).

Our volunteers are the heart of our organization. They operate our bookstore, assist with fundraising events, support library programs, welcome visitors, and help preserve and share the history and culture showcased in the AACRC. I continue to be inspired by the dedication of our volunteers and the lasting impact we make together.

Judith Williams,

President

The Friends of the Library exist because of people like you. Through memberships, donations, bookstore purchases, and volunteer service, we provide meaningful financial support to the library and the AACRC. Each year, the Friends contribute approximately $10,000 to enhance library programs, educational resources, cultural activities, literacy initiatives, and special events for children, teens, and adults. These funds help expand opportunities that extend beyond public funding and ensure our library remains a vibrant center for learning and community engagement.

The Friends Bookstore is where every purchase supports our mission. More than just a bookstore, it is a unique shopping destination filled with gently used adult and children’s books, home décor, artwork, jewelry, gift items, and one-of-a-kind treasures. These are special items that have been generously donated by local artists, community members, and supporters who believe in our mission.

I encourage you to visit the African American Cultural Resource Center, where history comes alive through African art, historical exhibits, books, archives, and educational resources that honor the achievements, resilience, and legacy of African Americans. The AACRC serves as a place of learning, reflection, and inspiration for visitors of all ages.

Whether you are interested in becoming a member, making a financial contribution, volunteering your time, donating books, or simply exploring all that our library has to offer, we invite you to become part of our family. Every gift, every purchase, and every volunteer hour strengthen the library, sustain the African American Cultural Resource Center, and enrich the lives of those we serve.

Thank you for visiting our website. We look forward to welcoming you to the Betty J. Johnson North Sarasota Library soon.

Warm regards,
Judith Williams, President
